Behavioral Health, Adolescents & Young Adults

Services We Provide

At BrightStarts, we can formally evaluate and diagnose patients between the ages of 6 and 18 years with ADD, ADHD, defiance disorder, anxiety, depression, and offer subsequent treatment. In our primary care setting, we cannot evaluate for Autism, dyslexia, or other learning disabilities. See the Vanderbilt Rating Scales below (one set for parent, and one set for teacher) to begin an ADHD evaluation.

If your child already has a diagnosis of Autism, ADD, ADHD, defiance, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and OCD from another clinic, Ellie Tsikalas CRNP can, in most cases, offer a treatment plan for your child, including pharmaceutical and non-pharmaceutical options.

If your child has more complex diagnoses like Bipolar Disorder, frequent self-harm, etc., Ellie Tsikalas CRNP will always advise you if/when your child needs specialist psychiatric treatment that goes beyond the scope of BrightStarts Pediatrics. We assist families with outside recommendations and referrals.

Important Patient Information

NATIONAL AND STATE LAWS DICTATE OUR CLINIC RULES FOR PATIENTS ON A CONTROLLED DRUG

  • Any patient taking a controlled drug (like Vyvanse, Concerta, Focalin, Adderall, etc.) must be seen in the clinic at minimum every 80-85 days.
  • If your child is not seen before their 3rd refill of their medication, that is a violation of state and federal law.
  • We can and will refuse to send a refill until that required visit is complete.
  • Pharmacies can withhold dispensing the drug & insurance can even withhold paying for the drug.
  • Families who can not follow these laws with us will be unable to continue getting treatment for ADHD at our facility.
  • Families disrespecting the law and/or our staff will be discharged from the practice completely.
